Thank you for supporting WVU student ambitions to study abroad! The following resources are intended for WVU academic advisors to assist students with integrating a study abroad experience into their WVU Academic Plan.

ELIGIBILITY
Students must have a 2.5 GPA and no active conduct sanctions for semester or full
year study abroad. Students must reach sophomore class standing before spending a semester abroad. Students are discouraged from spending their final semester abroad before graduations. Exceptions can be approved with Dean's permission only.
Freshmen are permitted to participate in WVU Faculty-led programs as early as Thanksgiving Break their first semester.
Students with a 2.0 - 2.49 GPA may be considered for WVU Faculty-Led programming
with prior approval from Education Abroad the WVU faculty leader.
TYPES OF PROGRAMS
Semester/Full Year/Summer - Transient Credit Programs
Application Period: August 1 - February 15th, academic year before travel
Example: Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 applications are due by February 15, 2025
Programs: WVU Exchange, WVU Direct Enroll Partnerships, WVU Affiliated
Providers
Post-program Transient Credit: Student must provide a completed study abroad transient form to their academic advisor for submission to OUR. Once a student has emailed you a Study Abroad form, you can verify and submit the request using the Study Abroad Approval Process.
WVU Faculty-led Programs - WVU Credit Programs
Application Period: Based on term abroad:
- Spring Break - Applications open at the beginning of the Fall semester and close by November 1.
- Summer - Applications open between October and December the previous year. Priority deadline is February 1, final deadline is April 1. Competitive programs will close first.
- Thanksgiving/Winter Break - Can vary, limited options. Model UN applications open at the end of the previous Spring semester with deadline of May 1. Later programs may open at the beginning of Fall term with deadline of October 1.
How to get started: Student applies directly to program. Programs can be found using the Program Search.
Coursework: All students will register for WVU courses associated with their program. These will appear on a student's record similar to a course taken on-campus or online.

Ed Abroad Advisor Form - Required for Ed Abroad Advising Request submission. This document is used to determine a student's course flexibility so that an Ed Abroad Coordinator can recommend programs that best fit their academic needs.
Final Semester Abroad Exception Form - Required for Ed Abroad Advising Request when planning to study abroad last semester before graduation, dean's signature required.
Course Selection Worksheet - Once a student has completed the Ed Abroad Advising Request, they will receive program options from an Ed Abroad Coordinator. Upon final selection of a transient credit program, the student is required to complete this worksheet and review with their academic advisor. This form provides a plan for the student to find courses abroad that meet their WVU academic needs as well as alternatives in case courses become unavailable.
